  1. Hey, just saw Garnett's RT and decided to check it out. I have a blog as well, and so I love seeing fellow small-time bloggers. I started off with a very similar post, too. Decided to pass on a the little wisdom I've accrued over the last four years. Hopefully it's not too pretentious.

-Post regularly. The best way to get readers is to adhere yourself to a schedule. I could never do that reliably enough, so it's tough to maintain a following. People won't go to your blog if you're posting once a month or whatever. Also, it'll make you a better writer.

-Don't get discouraged. People will gloss over you completely because you're not IGN or some other big site. They'll be really harsh, too. But what's the fun in that? It's why people fight against putting a Wal-Mart in a small town- drives out the mom n' pop stores like us. So don't worry about idiots cursing at you for offering your opinion, especially when they're just pissed you didn't like their favorite game.

-Be professional. It's a small-time, recreational blog, but I'm just going to assume that you'd like to do this full-time one day. Right? I know the feeling. Well, the best way is to post stuff as high quality as you'd turn in to an editor at a job. So not a huge criticism, but work on your grammar a bit. Adhere to a style. Trust me, it'll make your life easier once you're used to it.

There's other stuff, but I already feel pretentious enough as is. So keep it up! Even though it's small-time, it can be really rewarding.
